Beyond the 32-chunk cap
Unlocks higher values in Video Settings so your view distance is limited by your hardware, not a hard-coded number.
Render distance changer modThe vanilla slider stops at 32 chunks. Render Distance Mod pushes it further, so mountains, oceans and your far-off builds stay on screen instead of fading into fog. Free for Minecraft Forge, including 1.20.1.
Every square is one chunk (16×16 blocks). Anything outside the ring is hidden in fog.
A small client-side mod with one big job: letting Minecraft draw more of your world at once.
Render distance is the number of chunks Minecraft draws around you in every direction. One chunk is a 16×16 column of blocks, so at 12 chunks you see roughly 192 blocks before the world disappears into fog. The vanilla Java Edition slider tops out at 32 chunks.
Render Distance Mod removes that ceiling. It works as a render distance changer mod: it unlocks higher values in Video Settings, so you can set a view distance that fits your PC instead of the limit Mojang chose for everyone.

Starting points only. Your CPU, graphics card and installed mods matter just as much.
Every step up in render distance adds a whole ring of chunks to load. Use the table as a starting point, then raise it until your frame rate dips.
For a better render distance mod Minecraft setup, give the game more memory in your launcher's JVM arguments and lower simulation distance — you can see far without simulating everything.

Usually, yes. More chunks means more work for your CPU, GPU and RAM. Raise it step by step and stop when the game stops feeling smooth.
No. Resource packs only change textures and visuals. A render distance resource pack can reduce fog so far terrain looks clearer, but it can't load extra chunks.
On multiplayer servers, the server decides how many chunks it sends you. The mod lets your client display more, but you'll only see what the server provides.

Render distance controls how far terrain is visible. Simulation distance controls how far away the game updates entities and other world activity. Adjust each setting separately to balance scenery and performance.
Start with your current setting and increase it a little at a time. Test while moving through your world, and lower it if you notice stuttering or slow chunk loading.
Yes. Save a backup of your world before changing your mod setup so you can restore it if something goes wrong.
Compare the Minecraft version and mod loader listed on the download page with your game profile. Read the file notes for any required dependencies before installing.
Include your Minecraft version, mod loader, mod file name, and any error message. These details make it easier to identify a mismatch or installation problem.
Use the same world, location, and graphics settings for both tests. Move through the area and compare terrain visibility, frame rate, and stuttering.
Lower your render distance and test the same area again. If the problem continues, check your mod setup and whether it happens in single-player, multiplayer, or both.
Change one setting at a time and test after each adjustment. This helps you understand which change improves visibility or affects performance.
