Forge 1.20.1
- Install Minecraft Forge for 1.20.1 (Forge 47.x) using “Install client”.
- Copy the Render Distance Mod .jar into
.minecraft/mods. - Start the game with the Forge profile.
- Open Options → Video Settings and raise Render Distance.
Other Forge Versions
Mods are tied to specific Minecraft and Forge versions. If you play a different version than 1.20.1, use a build made for that version — a mismatched file will crash the game or not load at all.
Distance Changer
“Render distance changer” is simply what many players call a mod that lets you change render distance beyond the default limits. Render Distance Mod does exactly that through the normal Video Settings slider.
Bedrock
Bedrock Edition (Windows, Android, iOS, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch) can't run Forge mods. Instead:
- Go to Settings → Video and raise the Render Distance slider.
- The highest value available depends on how much memory your device has.
- Lower Simulation Distance if you need to recover performance.
Resource Packs
Resource packs can't load extra chunks, but fog-reducing packs make the terrain you can see look clearer. On Java, place the pack in resourcepacks; on Bedrock, open the .mcpack and activate it in your world settings.
Performance
- Allocate more RAM in your launcher (for example 6–8 GB on a 16 GB PC).
- Add a performance mod alongside Render Distance Mod.
- Keep simulation distance low and render distance high.
Troubleshooting
- Game won't start: check Forge, the mod and Minecraft are all 1.20.1 and you're using Java 17.
- Slider didn't change: make sure you launched the Forge profile, not vanilla.
- Out of memory: lower render distance or allocate more RAM.
- Still short on servers: the server's own view distance limits what it sends you.
